February Community Heroes

Each month, we celebrate Community Heroes across Northamptonshire. These organisations are working tirelessly to improve the lives of our county's most vulnerable residents, and we're very proud to support them.

To read more about each Hero, have a look at our Community Hero of the Week column in the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, published every Thursday.

Weston Favell Centre Food Bank

Part of the Trussell network, Weston Favell Centre Food Bank is helping vulnerable households in Northamptonshire.

Last financial year more than 4,400 households were supported by the food bank, which runs two sessions each week to provide household essentials including food parcels, toiletries, cleaning products, pet food and nappies.

RUSH 2The DEN

RUSH 2The Den believes in inspiring young people to achieve.

The charity’s Babies, Tots and Adults drop-in sessions are open to all and encourage parents and caregivers to spend quality time with their children and to build a support network in a warm, safe and welcoming space.

RUSH 2The Den also runs a Swap Shop and delivers food donations to low-income families in need.

Pravasi Mandal (Asian Elders Group)

Pravasi Mandal provide social events, day trips, exercise classes and a meals on wheels service to older members of the community surrounding their day centre in Wellingborough.

The affordable meals on wheels service can be requested by day centre members and non-members, for weekday delivery or collection. A recent grant from Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s Warm this Winter Fund was awarded to support this; to increase the number of freshly prepared meals delivered to older residents each week, and to enable the delivery of regular health and wellbeing check-ins for each meal recipient.

Friends of East Hunsbury Primary School

The Friends of East Hunsbury Primary School is a voluntary group working to raise funds and to support the local community.

Parents, carers and teachers make up the registered charity, which was recently awarded a grant from Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s Warm this Winter Fund to enable the setup of a warm space and community cafe within the school.
